My former agency was located in a historical district of town. The building had a ton of character and the location was fantastic, but there wasn’t enough room to accommodate our growing team and meeting room needs. Their one meeting room was almost always booked, and personal workstations weren't so personal. It was difficult to find a quiet space to take phone calls or work without distractions.
One day, as I walked back to the office from lunch, something caught my eye: a "FOR RENT" sign in the window of the loft right next door.

It hit me: this could be the answer to the company's need for more space. I immediately saw the potential! Not just as a big room for meetings or more desks, but as an opportunity to design an environment that sparked creativity, fostered collaboration, and boosted energy.
I pitched the idea, and a few weeks later, I took on the project of designing and furnishing the space.
Creating the Right Space for Collaboration

The key to a great workspace isn’t just about having more room—it’s about creating the right kind of space. They needed a place to host larger groups of clients. They also needed a place where ideas could flow freely, where people felt comfortable working alone, collaborating, or taking a quick break to recharge.
Here’s what I focused on:
Natural Light and Open Spaces
It’s amazing how much of an impact natural light can have on mood and energy levels. No one wants to sit in a dark, dreary office all day. The new space had plenty of large windows, allowing sunlight to pour in and I was intentional about the placement of work stations, furniture and monitors.
A Multi-Use Meeting Room
Flexibility was my goal when designing the large meeting room. The space needed to house team meetings, client presentations, trainings, and brainstorming sessions. I opted for reconfigurable tables that can be easily moved around, making the space adaptable and flexible. Smart TVs and whiteboards were also hung for convenient use during presentations or meetings.
Comfortable and Professional Collaborative Workspace
It was also important for the team to have a relaxed collaborative space that still felt professional. An area where smaller project teams could gather, or people could step away from their desk to recharge. I chose furnishings that were ergonomic and stylish—a modern leather couch, swivel chairs, and modular desks. I created a calming space where people actually wanted to spend their time.
Podcast Room for Creativity
One of the most exciting additions was the podcast room—a space for team members to record podcasts, host discussions, or simply get some quiet time to think. It’s a creative outlet that not only encourages content creation but also offers a relaxed environment for team members to step away from their usual desk setup and focus.
Coffee Station & Pantry
I repurposed a shelf unit to create a coffee station, strategically placed near the heart of the space. It's a great way to welcome guests and get those creative juices flowing over a cup of coffee. A small pantry was also stocked with a variety of cold beverages, snacks, and food service ware for convenience when hosting meetings.
The lofted space next door met the physical needs of this growing company, and their need for creativity, collaboration, and comfort was prioritized.
The next time you’re looking around at your office, ask yourself: Is this space helping my team bring their best ideas to life? If not, maybe it's time to think about designing a space that truly inspires. At Reverie, we thrive at creative problem solving and seeing the potential of a space. We'll think outside the box to meet your team's needs and create a collaborative workspace that reflects the culture and values of your company.
